Design–build, defined
In a traditional remodel, you hire a designer to create a plan, then hand that plan to a separate contractor to build. In design–build, one team does both. The people who design your kitchen or bath are the same people who build it — so there is no hand-off, no finger-pointing, and no gap between the drawing and the reality.
Why it matters for you
- One point of accountability — a single team owns the plan, the price, and the result
- Realistic pricing — the design is priced by the people who will build it, so the budget reflects the actual plan
- Fewer surprises — constructability is considered during design, not discovered mid-build
- Clearer communication — one team, one conversation, from first sketch to final walkthrough
The construction advantage
A design–build team with a real construction background understands how a kitchen or bath connects to the structure, systems, and finishes around it. That perspective catches issues on paper that would otherwise become expensive surprises once the walls are open.
Questions to ask any remodeler
Whether or not you work with us, ask: Who designs the project, and who builds it? Will I have a detailed scope and price before construction? How will you communicate during the build? What does your workmanship warranty cover? The answers tell you a lot about the experience you are signing up for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is design–build more expensive?
Not inherently. Because one team prices what it will actually build, design–build often reduces costly surprises and change orders that come from a design-to-contractor hand-off.
Do I still get a real design?
Yes. You get a considered design and guided selections — with the added benefit that the team designing it knows exactly how to build it.
How is Redefined design–build?
